You are standing at Skeater Rock which offers stunning panoramic views across southern County Wexford and out to the Irish Sea. Look left, to your east for Rosslare Europort and the ferries coming in from Wales and mainland Europe. Can you spot Tuskar Lighthouse?

Follow the coastline across to the bustling fishing port of Kilmore Quay, renowned for its quaint thatched cottages and fine seafood. In front of you lie the Saltee Islands. Located a few kilometres away from Kilmore Quay, this is one of Ireland’s largest seabird sanctuaries. Popular with day-trippers and birdwatchers, the islands are famous for its Puffin, Gannet and seal colonies.

Slightly inland, you will notice some large wind turbines on the landscape. Constructed in 2006, this is the Richfield Wind Farm. There are 18 turbines in total. The turbines can power almost 18,000 homes and abate almost 22,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Continuing along the coastline to the west you will spot Bannow Bay. It was here that The Normans first landed in 1169, thereby shaping the course of Irish history.

Further west, you will see the unmistakable Hook Lighthouse. Situated on the rocky outcrop of the Hook Peninsula, this is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world. It was purpose built over 800 years ago by Knight William Marshall. The lighthouse is open to the public for guided tours.

On the distant horizon, you should be able to see the Waterford Estuary and the Comeragh mountains. Tucked in below that is Carrigbyrne Hill, a key site during the 1798 Rebellion and the Battle of New Ross. The medieval town of New Ross is just beyond.
