Country Connects – Ballyfad Wood

Wexford Walking Trails together with Wexford Country Council, Healthy Wexford and the Irish Farmer’s Association are inviting you to get outdoors and explore some of Wexford’s fabulous country trails.  The walks will take place on our established and fully Sport Ireland accredited trails.  The trails are mainly graded as moderate and are suitable for people with a moderate level of fitness but care is required.  Good outdoor walking footwear, suitable clothing and snacks/drinks are all recommended.

Tintern Trails

The Ballyfad walk is set in over 200 acres of mature woodland near Coolgreany, Co Wexford.  The woods at Ballyfad were acquired by the Government from the Brooke Estate in 1904 at a cost of around €3,000.  There are 4 trails in all of varying length and many fine examples of mature oak, beech, Norway spruce, Douglas fir and Scots pine can be seen along the way.  Ballyfad Woods was used a a refuge by rebel forces both before and after the rebellion of 1798. 

 Weather permitting, refreshments will be served al fresco following the walk. 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Bring a fully charged mobile smartphone 
  • Wear suitable clothing and comfortable footwear suitable for walking outdoors.
  • Bring water and a snack with you.
